Lasagna
Ingredients
1 lb Italian sausage
¾ lb ground beef
½ cup onion, minced
1 tsp garlic, minced
1 (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
2 (6 oz) cans tomato paste
½ cup water
1 box lasagna noodles (~12 noodles)
2 dashes hot sauce
2 tbsp sugar
1 ½ tsp dried basil
1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
1 tsp fennel seed
4 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp ground black pepper
2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
¾ cup parmesan cheese, shredded
Cook sausage, beef, onions, and garlic. Drain and add tomatoes, water, and seasonings (reserve ½ of parsley). Simmer covered for 1 ½ hrs, occasionally stirring.
Soak noodles while sauce is cooking. Do not need to pre-cook.
In deep 9x13 dish layer sauce, noodles, cheese. Repeat layers; finish with sauce, cheese, and parsley. Spray a sheet of foil with non-stick spray and cover dish.
Bake at 375 ° for 25 mins; remove foil and bake 25 mins more.
TIPS:
It tastes even better on night 2!
Can prepare the night before, Reduce cooking time for sauce to 15 min.
I tried freezing pans of it but the noodles become very mushy. It was ok to eat the first night but the leftovers were way too mushy. If you do freeze you will need to thaw it prior to cooking and it will still take at least an hour to bake.
This is an excellent recipe for Lasagna that I found on Allrecipes.com. You can see my Pin for it to the left. I did change a few things to help it fit our tastes a little better and you can see my adapted version of this recipe below.
